During this Holy Season let us take a moment to count our blessings and say a prayer for our military and those of us less fortunate.

Merry Christmas, Feliz Navidad, Joyeux Noel, Frohe Weihnachten, Glaedelig Jul, Eftihismena Christougenna, Eftihismena Christougenna, or Nollaig Shona dhuit.

However it's said, let us remember the true meaning of Christmas.   Simply stated by our Perry historian and distinguished author,   Rick Flanagan, Christmas is about the birth of Christ and a time of compassion for our fellow man and  peace on earth and good will to all.

"And she shall bring forth a son,
and thou shalt call his name Jesus:
for he shall save his people from
their sins." Matthew (1:21)
The Christmas Season is also a time that often brings to mind past memories. It's a time when we recall old friendships and wonder how we ever got out of touch. It's a time when we think of happy moments and the sad times as well. It's also a time for charity and forgiveness. Christmas is just a wonderful time of the year and its no wonder Christmas is celebrated the world over. In the spirit of this wonderful Holiday, the Perry Association wishes everyone a very special Christmas and a healthy happy New Year

'Gone but not forgotten'

Most recently Don Santee has taken his final voyage. However, I'm sure he and his fellow shipmates will be with us in spirit at our upcoming D.C. Reunion. Don hasn't missed a reunion yet and was among the first to register for 2006. I know he'll be there with Ken, Woodie and all the other guys we were fortunate to have shared our memories with.

Midshipmen 42 Cadets 23

Looks like it's going to be a great 2006. Navy did it again, they won an outstanding victory over Army making it four straight wins and gaining a one-game lead in the overall series at 50-49-7. Must be a good omen for our upcoming DC Reunion.

Don't forget to tour the Washington Monument

I have just learned from our shipmate Haskel West that placed atop the Washington Monument are two words: Laus Deo. So, what can these two words in Latin possibly mean? Very simply, they say "Praise be to God!"      [Laus is Praise be and Deo means God]

Though construction of this giant obelisk began in 1848, when James Polk was President of the United States, it was not until 1888 that the monument was inaugurated and opened to the public. It took twenty five years to finally cap the memorial with a tribute to the Father of our nation, "Laus Deo....Praise be to God!"

Let us remember to do our part, through prayers and sacrifice, to be the watchmen who stand their guard.

Washington Monument Laus Deo

Officially opened to the public on October 9, 1888. Upon completion, it became the world's tallest structure at 555 ft 5 1/8, a title it held until 1889, when the Eiffel Tower was finished.
